Reasons for consulting a therapist
The real reason for consulting a sex therapist is not always given during the first visit. For the patient, admitting to what he views as a « weakness » may elicit feelings of shame and guilt, as the notion of performance is deeply rooted in our modern sexual conditioning.
The therapist must make the patient feel at ease, adopt a clear, neutral vocabulary to help him accurately formulate what is upsetting, destabilizing his sexual and often his love life and relations.
Whatever the issues broached, the expectation remains the same : desire, pleasure, permanent fulfilment …
The most frequent reasons are :
- Erectile dysfunction (erectile difficulty)
- « Premature » ejaculation
- Absence of pleasure and/or drive
- Painful penetration
- Hyperactive sexuality
- Complaint about penis size
